SCIENCE COMPETENCIES

SOURCE OF COMPETENCIES – The Science competencies are the State Board of Education approved Science Standards approved on 5/24/04 and updated on 3/10/05.  While the Career and College Pathway does not mandate the teaching of any specific standards, the recommended focus is one that would insure the student benefit the most from their Science curriculum.  In this pathway, the focus is on becoming an informed decision maker and responsible citizen, which again is defined as enabling people to make their own decisions and to take responsibility for their own lives and their communities.  Of particular importance are Science Standards that enhance the ability of the student to articulate their opinions and arguments about scientific and social issues.

ASSESSMENT OF COMPETENCIES

Attainment of the Learning Outcomes in the Academic Core can be assessed using any of the Indicators for College Readiness in the College and Career Readiness Rubric included in the A-F School Accountability Plan as adopted by the State Board April 24, 2017, with the exception of the “Completes the FAFSA”.  The Indicator, or combination of College Ready Indicators, must achieve a value of 1.0.   If the College Readiness Indicators adopted on April 24, 2017 are later modified those modifications will become the menu of assessment options for determining College Readiness under this Rule.   In addition, Learning Outcomes can be measured by ACT WorkKeys or Az MERIT at the benchmarks indicated in the College and Career Ready Rubric.
